Albums of 2011. No.6 Stephen Malkmus & The The Jicks : Mirror Traffic (Domino) I’ve been complaining that so many bands in 2011 just released the same albums as always (hello Wilco, Tom Waits, Radiohead etc etc), which is especially true of the old indie guard if you like. But some people’s songwriting and sense of emotion are better than others. So, Malkmus and band return in 2011 with their most listenable (pop?) album yet. It’s a small difference , but enough to make Mirror Traffic one of the albums I’ve had on repeat the most in 2011. On top of this, it really felt like Malkmus got his sense of humor back in 2011.
