The first great album of the year came from Dan Bejar’s Destroyer. For the uninitiated, Kaputt is your gateway into one of the last great indie discographies. For us hardcore Destroyer fans, it’s possible that we find Kaputt’s lyrical offerings quite obtuse and even shallow. This is compensated by Kaputt being one of Bejar’s richest musical journeys. Wrongly compared to iconic 1980’s recordings, Kaputt stands scrutiny only against Destroyer’s own works. Not his best by some way, but still special.
